What’s Your Story?

What’s Your Story is a program I designed to work with individuals and organizations to connect with consumers, investors and employees through the use of a compelling story. People don’t want to be sold. They want to be inspired.

 

Story begins with how you talk about yourself and what you do. I advise my clients to “abandon the elevator speech” – and instead to use narrative that will connect you to others.

 

Every person and every organization has an ‘origin’ or ‘foundational’ story. Those stories are a valuable asset and have more power than you may realize. In my work I begin with asking the basic questions of: Who are you? Why are you doing this? Where are you going? Why does this matter?

 

What I often hear are inconsistent stories told throughout an organization; from the business development and sales force to the creative team all the way to junior or senior employees. This leads to confusion and lost opportunity to leave a long-lasting and signature impression. What’s Your Story brings everyone together to define and connect the story that best fits each role and responsibility.

Embedded into our daily lives are opportunities to use the power of story. A presentation, writing an email, internal training, a company announcement, delivering instructions, a press release, or LinkedIn post all can become transformative when tapping into how we connect with others.

 

When you tell a great story, you are a more memorable leader, speaker and professional. Studies show that we retain stories far longer than data, and that we are hard-wired to respond to narrative. After a presentation, 63% of attendees remember stories, only 5% remember data. Stories stick.
